It is absolute...The feather paintings are amazing!

It is absolutely understandable how you would be overwhelmed with what is going on in the wildlife world. I volunteer with a couple of wildlife groups and my particular focus is coyotes. You can be overcome with the negative and uncaring attitudes of the general public. But, I think there is hope. I believe that education is best defence. Every time there is a “coyote scare” article published in our local paper, I write a letter to the editor to help people understand that coyotes will not eat children and why having coyotes around is a good thing. I still get frustrated at the stupidity of some, but I know that my excitement about wildlife has rubbed off on others and I feel good about that. What you are doing is making a difference – remember that.Wolfiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04743943656869294788noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7773304516307040401.post-54279367720480313492010-05-14T21:15:05.200-04:002010-05-14T21:15:05.200-04:00TWO kinds of bluebirds!!? The memory of these birds stayed with me and I told my husband about them. A couple of years ago, he brought me back a hand-painted picture of a Bluebird from a visit to N.S. He had a heck of a time finding anything Bluebird related. The people that my husband was visiting in N.S. had never heard of the Bluebird! They are so rare now. They are forgotten. How sad. During my research I cam across your images of the Waccamaw silverside (Menidia extensa) on the fishbase website and was wondering whether you might be willing to let us display these on ARKive?

ARKive – www.arkive.org – is a unique conservation initiative, which aims to increase awareness of the need for biodiversity conservation by using wildlife imagery. Films, photographs and audio recordings of the world’s animals, plants and fungi are being gathered into one centralised digital library. To date we have created digital multi-media profiles for some 5,000 species, digitising and storing more than 37,000 still images and over 60 hours of moving footage. These important audio-visual records are being preserved and maintained for the benefit of future generations and are being made available via the ARKive website.

I can send more information about the ARKive project. However, in summary:

§ It is ARKive's current aim to compile audio-visual records for the 17,000-plus species currently threatened with extinction, according to the World Conservation Union's (IUCN) Red List of Threatened Species.

§ We are looking for media (moving footage, still images and audio) to depict each species' life history as comprehensively as possible. In order for us to achieve this aim we need help from as wide a variety of media donors as possible.

§ The ARKive website acts as a showcase for image providers, displaying copyright and contact details with every image and links to each media donor's own web activities.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me,

With best wishes,

Becky

----------------------------------------

Dr Rebecca Moran
ARKive Media Researcher

Wildscreen
Ground Floor | The Rackhay | Queen Charlotte Street | Bristol | BS1 4HJ | UK
(t) +44 (0)117 328 5950 (f) +44 (0)117 328 5955 (e) rebecca.moran@wildscreen.org.uk (w) www.wildscreen.org.ukARKivehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09377776835045623064noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7773304516307040401.post-82521025094735146562010-03-24T15:30:02.911-04:002010-03-24T15:30:02.911-04:00Aww, thanks, UOAE!
